Welcome back to
this week’s edition of the Power BI blog series. This week, we consider a new way to build and
format visuals.
On-object is a new
way to build and format visuals.
Microsoft has commissioned various research studies which have advised
that many feel Power BI Desktop is hard to use. If I am to opine personally, I would probably
say the constant moving of things does cause user consternation and
exasperation. Indeed, Microsoft has
stated that its staff have witnessed countless new users struggle to navigate the
user interface (UI) to perform simple actions such as completely missing the Fields
pane, being unable to add data to the correct field wells, hunting around the Format
pane to rename, change colours or format text styles for their visual.
These same users
instinctively right-click on areas of the visual expecting a menu to help. Aligning to Power BI’s new “Office-like”
strategy, this update introduces On-object, a new way to build and format
visuals directly on the visual.
Try it out for
yourself. It’s presently in
Preview. To set it up, simply switch on
the Preview: File -> Options and settings -> Options -> Preview
Features -> On-object interaction.
In the meantime, please remember we offer training in Power
BI which you can find out more about here. If you wish to catch up on past articles,
you can find all of our past Power BI blogs here.
