Power BI Weekly Issue 227: 2023/10/03

A short edition this week, but there are a few updates. Not sure how I missed this one, but a couple of weeks ago we were told about the new Enhanced Admin Portal Experience with Keyword-Based Filtering, which does exactly what it says on the tin. We’ve also been made aware that the Power BI OneDrive and SharePoint on by default rollout has started, whereby the preview of Power BI files will be enabled by default if your org hasn’t turned it off. Finally, we’ve been given the Power BI Report Server September 2023 Feature Summary, which comprises mainly a small set of “viewing” improvements.

We do also have a couple of community tools that have been introduced this week: Chris Webb has shared a tool created by his colleague Nat Van Gulck: VisOps For Power BI With PBI Inspector, which allows you to define rules against the visual elements of your report and check for breaches, using either a GUI or the command line. This will make a great addition to your enterprise reports release pipelines, if you ask me (in addition to your data model testing suite, of course!) The other tool that some of you might enjoy is the new Power BI Report Previewer Browser Extension created by Vahid Doustimajd, which provides a way to preview your Power BI reports in the workspace “list” view.
