Power BI Weekly Issue 262: 2024/06/11

Quite a short one this week. The only announcement is that we can now Ask Copilot questions against your semantic model (Preview) to get quick answers to simple analytical questions you have about the data in your model. The reason I say “simple” is that the more involved the query is, the more likely that the result won’t quite be what you expect (obviously). However, Chris Webb has written a brilliant blog about how to Get Better Results From Power BI Copilot With Linguistic Modelling, showing the importance of having a model following Power BI star schema recommended practices, but also showing how important naming is, and how Power BI can help you help Copilot query your data more effectively. I certainly learned a couple of things reading that blog!

Elsewhere this week, Sam McKay has recorded an interesting video titled My Power BI workflow for 2024. Energy dataset. ChatGPT augmentation of work, giving a taste of what a standard report development process looks for him these days, what with the presence of generative AI opening up so many opportunities. And sticking with report design – Kurt Buhler has introduced the 3-30-300 rule for better reports, giving some handy tips on how to create clear and effective reports/dashboards.
